The Racks were conceived at The Redbull House of Art Residency in Detroit. The iconic New York City Bodega chips take center stage-displayed as they would be in a store rack- in this case- monumentalized. Inspired by a trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum' permanent collection, where I came upon one of my favorite works of art "Stack" 1969 by Donald Judd... this tongue in cheek homage speaks to his essay "Specific Objects"in which Judd notes an interesting turn in object making that can't be named as sculpture or painting. The racks respond to this by highlighting the idea of the hybrid object as part of the artistic practice of many artist of color in and outside of the US.
